Higher Education Institutions:
Want to Host AEOP Apprentices?

The Technology Student Association (TSA) is seeking RFPs from colleges and universities to host Unite in 2018-19. Unite is a pre-collegiate, academic summer program for rising ninth through 12th grade students from groups historically underserved and underrepresented in STEM. The program, held at host sites around the country, is designed to encourage and help prepare students to pursue college-level studies and, ultimately, careers in engineering and related STEM fields. RFP is due December 8, 2017.

2017 eCYBERMISSION Winning Team Presents to Army Scientists and Engineers

Congrats to the NanoTygers, one of last year’s eCYBERMISSION winning teams! They were personally invited to the U.S. Army Natick Soldier Research, Development and Engineering Center (NSRDEC), after Chief Scientist, Dr. Charlene Mello, saw their project at the eCYBERMISSION National Awards Luncheon. The NanoTygers got to present their project to several scientists and engineers at NSRDEC. Read more about their experience.

AEOP Attends Massachusetts STEM Summit

Earlier this month, AEOP and the Academy of Applied Science (AAS)attended the annual Massachusetts STEM Summit, which promotes STEM education and career development from early childhood to adulthood. AEOP and AAS, which sponsor JSHS, hosted an exhibit and met with organizations from across the state that are advancing STEM education.

Florida Students Take a Unique Approach to JSS

In honor of Native American Heritage Month, we celebrate—this month and year-round—programs that support Native youth. This past summer, the Florida Governor’s Council on Indian Affairs (FGCIA) hosted its annual Florida Indian Youth Program, designed to expose Native youth across Florida to subjects ranging from traditional Native artistry, such as basket weaving, to the latest STEM. For the first year, FGCIA introduced JSS, a solar car competition. Read more about how the students took a very unique approach to further customize their cars from the standard kit pieces they received in our latest blog post.

From Mentee to Mentor:

Apprenticeships Come Full Circle for REAP Mentor Dr. Bayne

Dr. Stephen Bayne, a U.S. Air Force engineer turned Texas Tech University professor, transitioned from mentee to mentor during his role in implementing REAP at TTU. Through his nontraditional path to a Ph.D., he found a passion for power electronics, and ensured that electrical and computer engineering were incorporated into the program.
