Camp Overview

The 2017 Chemical Engineering Prep-Camp is an opportunity to attract high school students on their sophomore and junior year to learn more about the Chemical Engineering. The Prep-Camp will be held tentatively in one day of March in the Nursery Amphitheater of the University of Puerto Rico at Mayaguez. 100 Puerto Rican students will have the opportunity to learn about chemical engineering, its principles, its applications and how it can help boost Puerto Rico’s economy and society. This event will benefit UPRM’s Chemical Engineering department, because participants will obtain all the information needed about a Chemical Engineering career and will have a closer look to our department’s facilities. Another concern that the Prep-Camp seeks to address is the rapid emigration of Puerto Ricans to the exterior, often called “Fuga de Cerebros” due to the loss of young, talented minds. The Prep-Camp will help to reduce this issue by giving the students appropriate tools to start a career in Puerto Rico. Not only the basics of Chemical Engineering will be taught, but we will also hope to motivate our students to become future entrepreneurs.
